Assessment
An initial assessment appointment is the starting point to any therapy or psychological support. During the assessment we will talk about the challenges that you are seeking support for. We will develop a shared understanding of what may be contributing to the challenges, and a suggested plan for support.
What does an initial assessment involve?
If you are seeking psychological therapy or support for your child, then the first appointment will be an initial assessment. This appointment is usually attended by the young person and their parent/s - though this can vary depending on the young person's age and family preferences.
The aim of the initial assessment is to gain an understanding of the current challenges that your child and family are facing. This understanding informs the possible options of support for your child. During the assessment, we will talk about a range of topics including the current concerns and challenges, the young person’s life in general, your experience of parenting and your family history. The assessment process may require more than one appointment.

At the end of the assessment, I will discuss with you what I think may be contributing to these challenges and recommendations for support, which may include further assessment of your current concerns and psychological therapy. If I am able to offer the recommended psychological therapy, then I will provide you with information about this. You can then decide whether this is the right option for you. In other circumstances, I may recommend an alternative service or professional, which may be more suitable to your child's or family's needs or free to access.

The initial assessment is not available for autism and ADHD diagnosis. This is a separate assessment process. If you are seeking an assessment for autism or ADHD, then please contact me directly.
